LITTLE ROCK, AR — The Arkansas National Guard Foundation is proud to share an inspiring story of hope, resilience, and community. Thanks to the incredible generosity of fellow Arkansas nonprofit, Operation Red, White & Brave (ORWB)—a charitable foundation associated with First Service Bank—a life-changing spinal surgery is now within reach for a remarkable young girl.

Twelve-year-old Aly, the daughter of an Arkansas National Guardsman, is as full of spirit as she is sparkle. Whether she’s chasing trails on her mountain bike or adding extra glitter to her day, Aly radiates joy and strength. But her journey has been anything but ordinary.

Diagnosed at just eight months old with infantile early onset scoliosis, Aly spent much of her early childhood in and out of operating rooms, wearing body casts and braces, and enduring physical therapy in an effort to control the aggressive curvature of her spine.

In 2021, she underwent a spinal tethering procedure—a cutting-edge alternative to traditional spinal fusion that preserved her flexibility and gave her the chance to grow and play like other kids her age. For four years, Aly experienced a dramatic improvement in her quality of life.

Unfortunately, in late 2024, routine X-rays revealed that her growth spurt had compromised the tether. She now faces another complex surgery to prevent permanent damage and restore her mobility. However, the advanced surgical approach Aly needs is only available through an out-of-network team in New Jersey—bringing with it a daunting $75,000 price tag not covered by insurance.

That’s when Operation Red, White & Brave answered the call.

ORWB, whose mission is to support active military, veterans, and their families, committed to covering the $35,000 deposit required to secure Aly’s surgery. Their act of compassion means Aly is now scheduled for surgery in late April, giving her another chance to live pain-free.

“It is our honor to stand beside the men and women who serve this nation—and the families who serve alongside them,” said Rebecca Barnard, Executive Director of Operation Red, White & Brave. “Supporting Aly is not just about one surgery; it’s about showing our deep gratitude for the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we hold dear.”

The Arkansas National Guard Foundation is now working to raise the remaining $40,000 needed to cover the out-of-pocket balance and travel expenses associated with the month-long stay in New Jersey after surgery.

To support this cause, the Foundation is hosting a Benefit Crawfish Boil on Wednesday, April 17 at the Rock Lounge on Camp Joseph T. Robinson. Community members are invited to enjoy a delicious southern-style boil while making a direct impact on Aly’s life and the lives of other military families.

This powerful collaboration between two mission-driven organizations highlights what’s possible when communities come together to uplift those who serve. Let’s rally behind Aly and show her family—that her fight is our fight.
