SGT “Doc” Collier was a combat medic in the Arkansas National Guard who volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the 39th Infantry Brigade in 2004. He was killed in action in October of 2004 heading into enemy fire to provide aid to a mortally wounded fellow soldier. The AR National Guard Foundation has chosen to name their Inaugural golf tournament for education and professional development goals to honor Silver Star recipient “Doc” Collier’s heroic sacrifice.

This year’s tournament is specifically to raise funds to implement the Arkansas Military Service & Security Pathway (AMSSP), a 3 year civics curriculum set to launch in the 2024-25 school year in 94% of school districts statewide. Coordinated with the Department of Education, this program will teach civics, Arkansas National Guard history, and career options and benefits within the ARNG.
